Role Description:

The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University seeks outstanding postdoctoral applicants with expertise and knowledge of virology and lung biology to join an interdisciplinary team of biologists and engineers for the development of novel in vitro human organ-on-chip microsystems technologies to study and model respiratory viral infection and propagation in vitro.

In This Role You Will Have:

Strong interest in contributing to multidisciplinary teams (engineers, biologists/physiologists, clinicians) is critical for this position
Expertise in working with influenza and/or corona virus, in vitro culture, inflammatory responses, and characterization of cells derived from the lung (small airway/alveolus), as well as knowledge of gene editing techniques, flow cytometry, basic molecular and cell biology concepts and techniques is a must.

Preferred:

Expertise in respiratory viral infection and gene editing therapies, as well as lung biology, function, and inflammatory responses, with an interest in applying this expertise in combination with modern bioengineering practices by leveraging Human Organ-on-a-Chip technology in vitro
This postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop and lead an interdisciplinary research project aimed at using microengineered organ-on-chip models, to simulate respiratory viral infection, and exploring their use in drug discovery applications.

What You’ll Need:

Ph.D. and/or M.D.
Proven record of high-quality publications in the field of viral infection and/or lung biology or physiology
Previous experience in gene editing technologies of the lung, such as CRISPR is a plus.
