Director of Athletics – Creighton University

Creighton University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Athletics.

Creighton University, located in Omaha, Neb., offers a top-ranked education in the Jesuit tradition for people who want to contribute something meaningful to the world. It’s where students, faculty, and staff thrive in a supportive community committed to Jesuit, Catholic values and traditions. And, it’s where students learn to become leaders through service to others. Creighton’s nine schools and colleges deliver powerful education that connects arts and sciences, law, and business with health sciences programs in dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational and physical therapy, public health, and emergency medical services.

Founded in 1878, Creighton is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S. More than 8,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students come to Creighton each year to find their place in the world. The University enjoysboth financial and enrollment stability and in 2017 received reaffirmation of its accreditation status through 2026–27. As members of the Society of Jesus, the more than 17,000 Jesuits serving around the world continue the Ignatian tradition by advancing education. The Society of Jesus—the world’s largest Catholic religious order of priests and brothers—was founded in the mid-1500s by St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Creighton University again earned the top spot in U.S. News & World Report magazine’s rankings of Midwest Regional Universities for 2018—the 15th year in a row the University has earned the No. 1 ranking in the magazine’s “America’s Best Colleges” edition. Nationally, for the fourth year in a row, Creighton also was one of 42 universities around the country to be acknowledged for an emphasis on undergraduate research/creative projects. Creighton is the lone Catholic university on the list.

The Creighton men’s basketball team earns regular bids to the NCAA Tournament, including in the 2016–17, 2017-18, and 2020-21 seasons. The Bluejays play in the 17,000-seat CenturyLink Center, just a brief walk from campus. The women’s basketball team also has been steadily building a winning tradition, having played in the NCAA Tournament in 2017 and 2018.

The Bluejays men’s and women’s soccer teams have several NCAA Tournament appearances to their credit. Their home field, the 7,500-seat Morrison Stadium, is in the top tier of on-campus soccer facilities in the nation. Creighton is also the host school for the NCAA Men’s College World Series, played just east of campus in downtown Omaha’s TD Ameritrade Park.

Beyond college athletics, Omaha plays host to the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials and the Omaha Storm Chasers – the Triple-A affiliate of the 2015 World Series Champion Kansas City Royals. Additionally, PGA Tour and PGA Senior Tour events have been held in the city, which boasts dozens of public and private golf courses.
