Responsibilities
The MFA Creative Writing Associate Director is responsible for the comprehensive administration of the program, in collaboration with the program's Faculty Director and steering committee. Areas of responsibility include operations management, budget development, scholarship and tuition remission programs, strategic planning, development, alumni engagement, community partnerships, marketing and recruitment strategy, programming, enrollment management, management of relationships with visiting writers, editors, and alumni, as well as supervision of the program assistant.

1. Operations Management.

Budget Operations: Administer MFA Program Budget from all perspectives, including development and ownership of the annual budget documents and spreadsheets. Provide what-if scenarios and recommend budgetary adjustments to meet revenue and net income goals. Perform analysis to estimate operational impacts upon resources.

Administrative Management: Responsible for administrative management of the program. Performs complex analysis of administrative operations and improves functions: project management, developing timelines; analyzing and resolving new and complex issues resulting in sustainable policies and procedures. Ownership and development of annual course calendar (building the term). Oversee hiring process and collaborate with Human Resources and Dean's Office for all visiting writers (lecturers) and editors.

Programming: Develop, supervise, and market all programming: the Creative Reading Series, Afternoon Craft Conversation Series, and offsite events. Negotiate with agencies and authors to book high profile writers (over 20 per year) to visit the program in varying capacities. Complete and provide assessment of annual programming to Director to provide high-quality augmentation to the curriculum. Represent the MFA in Creative Writing in the Bay Area arts community through special events, such as conferences and festivals.
2. Marketing and Admissions
Marketing: Lead integrated program marketing strategy that promotes recruiting, fundraising, and raises the program's reputation and profile. Publicize faculty, staff, student, and alumni scholarships and publications. Collaborate with the Office of College Communications on ad campaigns, event advertising, analytics, and digital strategies. Leadership for the editorial calendar that directs content marketing, advertising/editorial features, deliverables of physical materials, email marketing, and social media. Manage Coordinator and Student Worker project implementation and workflow. Develop both physical and online marketing materials for targeted audiences. Lead content strategy for website, social media, and collateral: serve as a copywriter for all Program materials.

Admissions: Implement admit/decline decisions, direct prospective communication, recruitment strategies and timelines, direct all support processes and develop recruitment materials and website. Reports marketing analysis and develops and leads efficient recruiting and matriculation strategies.

3. Supervision of Program Assistant

Supervision in the area of implementation for recruiting, admissions policies and procedures, enrollment management, student services, alumni relations, programming and visitor logistics, p-card expenses, and contracts and stipends as an authorized signer. Ongoing performance management and coaching.
4. DEI Planning and Implementation:

Coordinate ongoing work with external consultants and the Office of Community Life, CCIE, and Dean's office to implement
plan for diversity, equity and inclusion program, including restorative justice training for faculty, staff, and students.

Experience and Qualifications

Education: REQUIRED: M.F.A. in Creative Writing

Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): 5+ years of experience at a university setting or arts program.

Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical): Excellent computer skills, written and verbal interpersonal skills.

Other requirements: (e.g. travel, weekend/evening work): Some evening and weekend work.
