We are looking for an experienced full stack developer skilled in our current tech stack to help shepherd solutions as we both add new features and scale up our current architecture. This engineer will work with the current software development team to design new solutions for the platform as it expands in size.
The engineer will work with experienced front-end and full-stack engineers working with scientific researchers to deliver a product capable of providing life-saving biological insights. Typical Core Duties
Participate fully in software development life cycle
Research, design, and implement technical solutions to deliver business requirements
Identify opportunities to improve and simplify applications portfolio and implement related enhancements
Contribute to creation and maturing of software development best practices and new technologies
Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external clients and to mentor junior staff
Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct
Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Minimum of three years experience building full stack applications on the cloud.
Solid frontend fundamentals with JS/CSS/HTML, and experience with Typescript.
Experience with React, Next.js and GraphQL. Working knowledge of at least one GraphQL client.
Strong Python skills and familiarity with the Python ecosystem.
Experience with relational database design, optimization, and maintenance (Postgres expertise preferred).
Experience with cloud computing providers. We are working with GCP.
Experience with ElasticSearch
Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
This is a one-year term position with strong potential for renewal.
This Staff role is starting as a remote position due to the COVID-19 pandemic and while the Massachusetts COVID-19 state of emergency restrictions are still in place. The current remote nature of this role is considered temporary and may change as the University continues to evaluate options. While we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidelines, local on-campus work may be expected for some roles. Harvard Medical School does support flexible schedules, subject to individual departments’ business needs.
