Job Description

Job-Specific Responsibilities

Our group in the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School is looking for an innovative and enthusiastic team member to join a multidisciplinary research laboratory. We are interested in understanding how computations arise from the organization and connectivity of neuronal networks. To analyze neural circuit structure and function at highest resolution and completeness possible, we utilize high-resolution, large-scale electron microscopy (EM). We are looking for an EM research technician interested in developing and applying their skills to large-scale EM and connectomics.

Typical duties of the EM Research Assistant I include:
sample preparation and sectioning
EM operation and data acquisition
data processing, alignment, and analysis
interacting and working with collaborators
In addition, a number of basic laboratory duties will be performed, such as solution preparation, inventory, and purchasing. During some periods, a moderate amount of computer work will be required to process data and reconstruct cells in datasets. This is an excellent position for someone interested in subsequently pursuing graduate school.

Basic Qualifications

College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

One year of experience in a research lab setting (relevant college coursework may count toward experience). High level of manual dexterity and attention to detail required. Prior experience with EM techniques is preferred.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
