Under direction of supervision, perform duties in achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, food quality, service of food, efficiency and productivity, and compliance with safety and sanitation standards, HACCP standards, Indiana Food Service Code regulations, and rules, policies and procedures of Ball State University.

Job Function:

Under direction of supervision, perform duties in achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, food quality, service of food, efficiency and productivity, and compliance with safety and sanitation standards, HACCP standards, Indiana Food Service Code regulations, and rules, policies and procedures of Ball State University.

Minimum Education:

1.High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and successful completion of Cashier Training Class and passing score on final test is required for positions with cashiering duties. All other University Food Court Worker positions require successful completion of the eighth grade.

Minimum Experience:

1.No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, oven cleaners, or other materials or environmental factors in food service, e.g., steam, dust, etc. 
2.Must have clean body, teeth, hair, nails, and clothing. 
3.Must be able to perform all physical and mental requirements outlined in each job duty/responsibility. 
4.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies, procedures, and communications. 
5.You must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Experience:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assemble supplies and materials; set up service area and serve food as required. Utilize Ball State standard recipes, menu, food production orders and supervisor's direction; comply with branded concept license and franchise agreements and standards of operation.
  • Exhibit evidence of teamwork and execution of excellent customer service that exceeds customer expectations in such areas including, but not limited to: courtesy, speed of service, sense of urgency, product consistency, demonstrating a passion of excellence, utilizing fun and humor when appropriate, innovation and creativity, and other criteria.
  • Hand wash and store pots, pans, and food service equipment.
  • Clean equipment and work area, maintaining sanitation and safety standards as defined by BSU manuals, handbooks, HACCP standards, Indiana Food Code, NRA ServSafe, and other industry standards. Maintain a clean and neat work area at all times.
  • Operate electronic terminals with a high degree of accuracy in logging on and off, competing cash transactions accurately and speedily, completing cash equivalency and debit account transactions, and generating a detailed daily media report at the end of each meal. A high degree of speed and accuracy is expected.
  • Greet and deal with customers with a smile, friendliness, and helpfulness. Communicate customer questions, concerns, and complaints to the supervisor.
  • Set up, operate, and clean dishwashing machinery and auxiliary equipment; move dishware and equipment to proper locations. Assist with laundry program as needed.
  • Clean, prepare, store, and deliver fresh produce. Garnish as required. Utilize Ball State standard recipes, menu, food production orders and supervisor's direction; comply with branded concept license and franchise agreements and standards of operation.
  • Count, measure, weigh, determine, and record amounts of food prepared and/or served.
  • Prepare foods such as (but not limited to) all types of grill items, french fried items, pizza products, deli products, etc., pacing food production to customer demand. Garnish as required. Utilize Ball State standard recipes, menu, food production orders and supervisor's direction; comply with branded concept license and franchise agreements and standards of operation.
  • Obtain, collect, and return materials and supplies from/to their proper place as needed.
  • Lead and direct helpers assigned to the work area to promote efficiency and completion of duties at the appropriate time.
  • Report substandard foods or supplies as well as malfunctioning, broken, or unsafe equipment to the supervisor immediately.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations, including but not limited to proper payment of food and that proper procedures are followed by university employees regarding the payment of food; report all violations immediately to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
