Position Highlights

The mission of the department of Diagnostic Imaging is to provide quality images and treatment to patients in a compassionate and efficient manner. Under the direction of the Chairman of Radiology and the Division Administrator, the Radiology Manager will be responsible for the daily operation of assigned modalities within the Imaging Services Department. This position will effectively maintain a system of monitoring the quality, safety, productivity and the appropriateness of services provided to achieve the best individualized care possible for all patients based on age appropriateness care.

Ideal Candidate

  • Has a bachelor’s degree
  • Is a graduate of a JCERT accredited school of Radiologic Technology, school of Nuclear Medicine or school of Ultrasonography.
  • Is ARRT, CNMT or ARDMS registered
  • Has a current Florida State License
  • Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a radiology field
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of radiology principles as they apply to the daily operations of a radiology department, including correct and adequate positioning skills and procedure protocol knowledge
  • Has complete working knowledge of radiographic equipment
  • Has experience coordinating and performing procedure scheduling as it pertains to patient preparation, orders, and proper resources
  • 3 years prior supervisory experience would be preferred

 

Responsibilities

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Radiology principles as they apply to the daily operation of the department (correct and adequate positioning skills and procedure protocol knowledge). 
  • Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of radiographic equipment in the department.
  • Coordinates and performs procedure scheduling as it applies to patient preparation, orders and proper resources.
  • Understands the principles required to establish charges, CPT coding, quality assurance monitoring, JCAHO preparation, and radiation safety regulatory requirements.
  • Collects, analyzes and distributes statistical reports in preparation for budgets.
  • Understands the basic principles of computer systems and how they apply to the daily operation of Radiology and maintains a current knowledge of new methods in the field.

QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF WORK:

  • Coordinates and/ or trains personnel as necessary.
  • Organizes, plans and directs activities relating to patients and procedures for all designated areas.
  • Administers, revises, reviews and/ or establishes department policies and procedures.
  • Meets the department needs and satisfies all requirements for regulatory agencies.
  • Supervises and directs technical aspects in designated areas with regards to services and programs.
  • Meets assigned deadlines for staff evaluations, hiring, promotion, and other administrative actions.
  • Develops plans for staffing replacement, additions and adheres to Cancer Center policies in reference to these actions.
  • Establishes a working relationship with the medical staff, clinics and other members of the Center.

  • Communicates changes, policy revisions, new services and information to staff by holding routine staff meetings.

  • Acts as a liaison between Diagnostic Imaging and other relevant departments concerning issues that affect the operation of the department.
  • Makes continuous efforts to identify and exceed the patient's needs and expectations and understands the appropriate interventions based on the following age groups; adolescence 12-18 years old, young adults 19-40 years, middle age adults 40-65 years and late stage adults 65 years and older.

PLANNING AND ORGANIZING:

  • Assures work assignments are consistent with the qualifications of the department personnel.
  • Participates in the annual budget formation and develops a long-range plan relative to services, programs, capital and human resource planning.
  • Plans, organizes and controls the daily operation of the department.
  • Determines the needs of the department to meet the requirements of regulatory agencies and makes necessary corrections or changes to accommodate regulations.
  • Reviews and approves staffing changes and controls overtime by reviewing attendance records.

COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Effectively supervises the radiology staff and assures proper orientation and training of new employees.
  • Communicates effectively with employee with regards to department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Effectively counsels employees when necessary, following guidelines set forth in the administrative policy manual.
  • Uses discretion and confidentiality in discussions related to patient, personnel or staffing concerns
  • Makes continuous effort to identify opportunities to meet or exceed the patient's needs and expectations.
  • Uses interpersonal skills which convey a positive and supportive attitude.

ANALYTICAL ABILITY:

  • Reviews research protocols for appropriateness and collaborates with all departments and reviews research budgetary data and how they impact the department as applicable.
  • Supervises data entry as it relates to quality assurance, ensuring accuracy and completeness of the data.
  • Collaborates with the coordination of procedure, CPT coding, charging, cost base, inventories and department budgetary data.
  • Identifies pertinent variables and groups of data management for data reporting to ensure that all decisions are based on accurate data collections.
  • Assures proper maintenance of equipment utilized for data collection and management.
  • Has the ability to use all computer systems in the department (Cerner, Capstone, Soarian, RadNet, Taleo, Halogen and Lawson) and other systems as required.

SCHEDULING EFFECTIVENESS:

  • Assures that technologist workloads are balanced, and that the department is covered adequately at all times.
  • Reviews attendance to limit overtime and makes sure that overtime is matched to patient procedures.
  • Develops scheduling procedures for the department to optimize resource/ equipment utilization.
  • Understands and has the ability to make changes to the hospital patient scheduling system and how it impacts the department.
     

DELEGATION:

  • Clearly defines authority and responsibility for all personnel and delegates duties to staff members for the most efficient and productive operation.

CONTROL OF COST:

  • Works closely with Materials Management and Purchasing Departments to maintain an adequate inventory of necessary supplies and materials in the department.
  • Assists the Administrator in controlling the department costs through effective performance and documentation of departmental expenses.
  • Prepares cost base for all exams performed in the department based on market values, RVU's, and other relevant information.

COLLABORATION:

  • Promotes collaboration within the organization and department to find mutual beneficial solutions for all concerned parties.
  • Ensures that the goals of the department meet the Center's objectives.
  • Maintains liaison between Radiology and Administration, medical staff, and other departments and programs.
  • Participates on hospital/ department committees as required.
     

Credentials and Qualifications
