About the Role:

We are looking for an innovative data scientist with expertise in bioinformatics and software engineering to join our Predictive BioAnalytics team. Reporting to the Lead Staff Scientist, you will collaborate across the Wyss community of faculty, staff scientists/engineers, post-docs, and students to spearhead end-to-end analytics projects for grants (e.g., with the NIH and DARPA) while simultaneously translating these project-specific deliverables into generalizable solutions that are integrated with our new bioinformatic cloud ecosystem.


Job-Specific Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

Contribute to a high-performance team culture that is mission-focused, ultra-collaborative, and intellectually engaging in a psychologically safe environment for new ideas and disruptive innovation.
Wear a ‘consultant’ hat collaborating with scientists as a statistical subject matter expert, translate scientific problems into computational solutions, and provide end-to-end data engineering and analytic support through the research process.
Design, write and document high-quality code in multiple languages (R, Python) to drive academic grant objectives and/or help incubate and de-risk projects that may spin out of the institute as start-up companies.
Help develop and support a suite of analytic applications for internal and external collaborators using Shiny, Streamlit and H2O Wave.
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.

Basic Qualifications

What you'll need:

A minimum of two years of post-secondary education and/or work experience in bioinformatics, software engineering, or data science.
Demonstrable experience in programming in at least one high-level language such as R or Python as well as SQL programming and utilization of databases to manage and drive analysis and modeling projects.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Desirable skills:

M.S. in STEM related field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science strongly preferred.
Proficiency using -omics data sets (large and small scale proteomics, transcriptomics, etc) and utilization of publicly available data such as GEO, LINCS, Drugbank, PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, etc.
Experience with conventional academic, as well as industry-grade tools including Git, Docker, cloud computing in one of the major vendors (we are an AWS shop but will diversify in the future), Tableau or Looker, RStudio Desktop (nice-to-have: RStudio Connect) and Python IDEs.
Demonstrable experience in academic environment participating in grant-based research and supporting academic publication to top-tier journals.
AWS certifications, and industry DevOps and cloud architecting/engineering experience in AWS.

Working Conditions

This position will be based on our campus in Boston, MA and may require some on-campus presence. Subject to business needs, the Wyss Institute generally supports flexible work arrangements.
