Job Description

Job Summary
Performs a variety of accounting and customer support duties that range in level of complexity. Works to ensure accurate and prompt payments for the entire campus. Provides primary customer support for a large number of campus departments who submit requests for payment to Accounts Payable. Perform expenditure review on large volume of incoming transactions, applying University Policy, and State and government regulations, to submitted transactions. Work closely with other Financial & Business Services departments as needed. Maintain confidentiality and security of departmental and personal information.

While this position is intended to work on campus, it also has the ability to telework remotely for a portion of each week, after initial training is complete. An employee hired into this role who telecommutes will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and sign the University of Utah Telecommuting Agreement.
Responsibilities
1. Review a large number and variety of incoming financial documents.
2. Receive and respond to customer inquiries, via phone, email, or in person.
3. Respond to inquiries on payment status from vendors.
4. Provide training and guidance to campus departments on preferred payment
methods and University Policy.
5. Maintain security of confidential information, both in paper and electronic form.
6. Apply University, State, and Federal regulations to submitted transactions.
7. Contact departments to obtain additional information and/or documentation as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus two years full-time clerical accounting experience or equivalency required. The ability to understand, interpret, and apply University and departmental regulations; demonstrated spreadsheet skills; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience using software programs such as PeopleSoft or Kronos may be required for certain positions.

Preferences
Strong customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication, familiarity with IRS reporting regulations, prior University experience.
