Job Description

A Postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Genomic Medicine, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, United States. This position reports to Robert Jenq in Genomic Medicine Department

We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow that is seeking training in translational research at the interface of oncology, immunology and the microbiome. Our usual project begins with studying cancer patient biospecimens, utilizing immune, microbiome and metabolomic analyses to evaluate for associations with key clinical outcomes. We then test hypotheses that arise using in vitro and preclinical mouse models. The overriding goals are: 1) achieving a better understanding of how the microbiome and the immune system interact to impact on cancer patient outcomes, and 2) developing novel strategies to improve cancer patient outcomes.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will gain experience with exploring human biospecimen data sets and testing resulting hypotheses experimentally. Learn skills for microbiome data analysis. Gain further experience in study design, data analysis, interpretation, presentation, and manuscript writing.

Individuals with an MD or PhD degree. To be considered, candidates must have a strong background in human immunology or mouse immunology and have prior first-author publication(s). English fluency is required. Proficiency in R is highly valued as well as prior experience with the analysis of high-feature data (could be microbiome, RNA sequencing, etc.)

Interested applicants should send a Cover Letter specifying past research experience/skills/accomplishments, a Curriculum Vitae, manuscript PDFs, and the contact information of two to three (2-3) Referees to Dr. Robert Jenq at rrjenq@mdanderson.org with the subject line entitled “Postdoctoral Fellow - Application – Applicant’s Name”.

Consideration of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Stipend support will follow the NIH Kirschstein-NRSA stipend levels level for the appropriate PGY.
