Responsibilities

Senior Institutional Research Analyst

Reporting directly to the Director of Institutional Research, the Senior Institutional Research Analyst is responsible for supporting data-driven decision making through the collection, display, and reporting of institutional data. The Senior IR Analyst (re)evaluates frameworks, strategies, standards and standards-making activities to enhance the College's goal of continuous quality improvement. The analyst must have extensive knowledge in processing complex data from various systems using Colleague, Informer, Excel, Tableau, programming in Python and other computer languages. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills. It also requires the ability to carefully manage internal and external relationships in the institutional research and higher education community. Familiarity with project management tools like Smartsheet or Teamworks are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for the Senior IR Analyst include:
  • Develop tools, techniques, and dashboards for insights and data visualization that combines cross-departmental information such as: Student, Faculty, Degree, Course, and Financial Aid data
  • Produce accurate, user-friendly deliverables in a timely manner pending institutional and external deadlines such as grants and other funding sources
  • Manage IR ad hoc reports
  • Assist in data analysis for internal and external reporting of College data, including: IPEDS, WASC reporting, US News, NSSE, Petersons, and World Reports
  • Complete institute-wide surveys and student feedback surveys (course evaluations) utilizing both Qualtrics and Explorance (Bluenote)
  • Demonstrate consistent and clear communication between internal and external parties
  • Manage strong and healthy working relationships within SMC community
  • Analyze and present institutional trends and other IR-related information that is relevant to the College community
  • Oversee and manage the institutional Factbook
  • Other duties as assigned


Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications

The Senior IR Analyst must be a seasoned professional with extensive experience in developing queries and compiling/analyzing data using various software including: SPSS/SAS, Excel, Tableau, Banner, Colleague, Blackbaud, etc. The job requires a professional who also has both analytical and communication skills, and can lead teams with effective management skills. Success in this role requires collaboration, communication, leadership, vision, and openness to learn and grow professionally.

Qualifications include:
  • A Master's degree in math, social science (multiple statistics/research method courses), education (multiple statistics/research method courses), business, or a related field
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a data analyst dealing with analysis from descriptive statistics to binary regressions
  • Ability to build queries
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of relational database structures, theories, and practices
  • Demonstrated expertise in excel and Tableau
  • Skills and deep familiarity with extracting, transforming, and loading data sets into third party software
  • Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment, and to meet tight deadlines
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
