We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join our team and contribute to the delivery and development of our Product Design programme. You will play a key role in the taught provision relevant to our undergraduate programme in Product Design, based in Mechanical Engineering in Leeds, and will be an active member of our Design Sciences research group. Applications are particularly welcome from candidates with skills, experience or research interests in one or more of the following areas:
- Human Centred Design / User experience of 3D products;
- User interaction (UX/UI/AI) for robotic and other mechatronic devices;
- Sustainable Design (in response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals);
- Communication design.
Joining the School of Mechanical Engineering, your research will contribute to advancing understanding in research areas relevant to one or more of the School’s research institutes and groups: Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE), Institute of Functional Surfaces (iFS), Institute of Thermofluids (iTF), Institute of Design, Robotics and Optimisation and/or the Future Manufacturing Processes Research Group.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person with an understanding (through research and/or practical experience) of industrial product development systems to work flexibly as a member of the Product Design team. Your primary base will be in Leeds, where you will work closely with colleagues to make learning resources appropriate for delivery to our Product Design students, ensuring all receive an outstanding educational experience. You will have technical experience in a range of topics related to design engineering and your teaching duties will be in areas relevant to our undergraduate programmes in Product Design. You will also be expected to offer mechanical engineering-related undergraduate and postgraduate design projects (e.g., by providing supervision related to design thinking, manufacturing processes, tooling design and material selection). You will demonstrate excellent team working skills with an ability to work in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary team and possess excellent communication skills. You will also contribute to the School’s continuing professional development and knowledge transfer activities and to enhancing the international research and teaching reputation of the School of Mechanical Engineering.
For appointment at Grade 7, you must be able to demonstrate experience of effective teaching to undergraduate/postgraduate students and supervision of undergraduate/ masters level student projects in Design Engineering-related disciplines, and a developing track record of high quality publications in related research area(s).
In addition, for appointment at Grade 8, you must have significant experience of managing industrial product development processes or be able to demonstrate a track record of successful and substantive grant applications, a strong track record of high quality publications in relevant research area(s), the capacity to deliver an outstanding student experience and an ability to undertake successful academic leadership and management roles.
