About Collection and Discovery Services:
Collections and Discovery Services (CDS) is responsible for acquiring, describing, preserving, and disseminating all types of scholarly and creative outputs to advance the research, teaching, and learning work of the University of Oregon community. CDS offers a range of reference, consulting, and instructional services to the users and creators of these collections. CDS encompasses four major areas: Digital Scholarship Services, Electronic Resources and Acquisitions, Cataloging, Metadata and Preservation Services, and Special Collections and University Archives. CDS endeavors to build strong partnerships, within the UO Libraries and with regional partners, to be a leader in advancing practice, and to contribute with increasing effectiveness to local, regional, and international resource collection and curation efforts. Position Announcement
The University of Oregon Libraries is seeking its next Associate Vice Provost and University Librarian for Collections and Discovery Services (AVPUL-CDS) to move an ambitious agenda forward. Emerging from a year of pandemic-affected operations, we are rebuilding our personnel ranks and re-thinking the way we work and serve our community. The successful candidate will join a newly formed leadership team at a time when the Libraries are embarking on the development of a fresh vision and a novel strategic design for a sustainable, global, and just information future.

The AVPUL-CDS will collaborate with the Libraries' administrative team and libraries leadership team to achieve overall organizational goals and build a strong culture of collaborative leadership. The AVPUL-CDS will be responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the Collections and Discovery Services division, which includes four departments:

• Cataloging, Metadata, and Preservation Services

• Digital Scholarship Services

• Electronic Resources and Acquisitions

• Special Collections and University Archives

The successful candidate will shape organizational structure, allocate funding to greatest effect, and leverage external partnerships to build collections and discovery services. The AVPUL-CDS will help us develop long-range and comprehensive plans around collections storage and preservation, exhibits, discovery of and access to electronic collections, digitization and preservation of all formats of collections, and growth of the library as a laboratory for scholars in the humanities and beyond.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum qualifications for the rank of Associate Librarian:

• Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or international equivalent.

• Six years post-MLIS or post-international equivalent progressively responsible library services leadership/management experience in an academic or research library, to include supervisory experience.

Minimum qualifications for the rank of Senior Librarian:

• Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or international equivalent.

• Twelve years post-MLIS or post-international equivalent progressively responsible library services leadership/management experience in an academic or research library, to include supervisory experience.

Professional Competencies

• Demonstrated experience with management and effective stewardship of library collections budgets.

• Demonstrated knowledge of collection management and open access strategies, trends, and best practices.

• Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary trends and key issues in research libraries and technology services.

• Strong diplomacy and negotiation skills; ability to bring key stakeholders together across differences to achieve goals.

• Ability to foster team commitment and trust.

• Proven ability to motivate and inspire team members.

• Skill with proactive and supportive performance management.

• Ability to foster creativity and innovation by providing new insights into situations, questioning conventional approaches, encouraging new ideas, and supporting the design and implementation of new or novel programs/processes.

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with people from different backgrounds and with diverse life experiences and learning styles.

• Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with ability to manage workload, priorities, and deadlines to achieve goals.

• Ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced education or training in leadership, management, higher education, or a related field.

• Strategic perspective: knowledge of current higher education policy environment, and experience with library and campus policy review, development, implementation, and training.

• Demonstrated knowledge in the fields of digital scholarship, digital collections, and/or digital preservation.

• Demonstrated knowledge of key issues and trends in university archives and special collections.

• Strong record of contribution to the information profession.

• Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing equity, inclusion, and/or accessibility.
