Any concerns about the ability to meet this requirement should be directed to HR Solutions at (505) 284-4700. : Organization 05219, MEMS Technologies, is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral appointee to conduct experimental research in hybrid quantum systems that manipulate quantum information shared between electrons, photons, and phonons in various forms and physical systems. Our team’s research vision is to scientifically understand the physics of the transduction of quantum information between a variety of systems that interact via the aforementioned particles to improve quantum information processing and sensing capabilities. Candidates will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers in an exciting research environment! Outstanding candidates will have experience in designing, building, characterizing, and manipulating quantum information in physical systems based on any qubit technology. However, expertise in photonic (optical or RF), phononic, and electronic microsystems and devices with interest in quantum information systems and a strong general physics background will also be considered. Candidates will be given the opportunity to learn missing vital skills from the rest of the team, thus acquiring extensive knowledge in quantum information processing and quantum transduction regardless of their incoming knowledge base, as well as gain exposure to a large network of internal and external collaborators (university and industry). On a given day, one may be called upon to: + Apply existing knowledge and gain new knowledge toward photonic, phononic, nano-optomechanical, or RF (superconducting) quantum microsystems. + Conduct research and publish. + Work in a collaborative environment and contribute your knowledge to the team. + Interact with other scientists and engineers to solve technical problems. + A PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field, conferred within five years prior to employment + The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE-L level security clearance
+ Experience with some of the following: + Quantum devices or systems + Chip-scale photonics or phononics + Piezoelectric microsystems + Superconducting circuits + RF microsystems + Microfabrication and integration + Multiphysics finite element analysis tools + Technical background and passion to learn new tools/techniques and to share knowledge with the team + Flexibility to changing tasks and projects as needed + Problem-solving skills to develop creative technical solutions + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills + An eagerness to work and share in a multi-disciplinary team environment
You will be part of the MEMS Technology Department (http://mems.sandia.gov/). We conduct research and development for advanced micro-electromechanical systems that push the technology envelope for national security applications. Our broad R&D portfolio includes traditional MEMS sensors and actuators (e.g., inertial sensors and switches), piezoelectric devices (e.g., ultrasonic transducers), RF/acoustic devices (e.g., RF filters), opto/acoustic devices (e.g., optical modulators), magnetic and photovoltaic devices, and emerging technologies. We also develop and maintain a comprehensive set of MEMS fabrication processes in Sandia's MESA Silicon and Micro Fabs, where we build MEMS with traditional bulk and surface micromachining, piezoelectric films, damascene and electrodeposited metals, through substrate vias, wafer bonding, and other semiconductor fab processes. MEMS is an interdisciplinary field. So our team includes a great diversity of technical backgrounds, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics, nuclear engineering, and even civil engineering.
