The Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering at St. Cloud State University is seeking applications form qualified candidates for a Laboratory Engineer. Successful candidates will have significant expertise to coordinate the use and preparation of mechanical & manufacturing engineering laboratories and teach select laboratory courses. In addition, this position supports equipment technical set-up & maintenance, software installation & upgrades, safety inspections, and testing & use training for faculty & students.

Lead Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Laboratories
Develop and lead laboratory activities of medium to high complexity/reinforce MME courses’ content
Maintain adequate office hours for lab students
Regularly consult with MME faculty to ensure alignment of laboratory activities and learning effectiveness with course content and learning outcomes
Design and manage the process of continuous assessment of learning effectiveness for laboratory activities; implement redesigned activities that result from assessment data
Continually develop expertise in mechanical and manufacturing engineering laboratory content and pedagogy
Mentor students in laboratory portion of MME senior design projects and independent research projects
Operation & Management of an Innovative, Educational and Experiential Learning Engineering Laboratory
Maintain supervised accessibility of MME laboratory spaces to students beyond limited lab meeting hours to provide more student lab time. (e.g. open-lab concept)
Work with local industry in both student projects as well as independent research and design projects through industry-SCSU partnerships.
Recommend student employee staffing needs; supervise & provide training to student employees assisting in lab preparation and maintenance
Manage Laboratory Equipment
Work with faculty to develop and maintain consistency in best practices and procedures for the use of laboratory equipment
Maintain and update experimental laboratory equipment to ensure safety and reliability
Maintain adequate laboratory supplies and equipment through coordination with the Department Chair
Identify and recommend new equipment needs based on industry practices and advisory board input to the department as needed
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering degree + 2 years of professional experience in Mechanical or Manufacturing engineering
Experience with industrial automation systems
Experience in setup, maintenance and operation of professional engineering equipment
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
Evidence of demonstrated ability to work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.
3+ years of industry experience including at least 1 year as a degreed engineer
Master’s degree or higher in engineering
3+ years of experience with Experiential Learning techniques and experiment development
Experience with standard engineering tools such as CAD, microprocessors, PLCs, programming, and simulation software
Experience with robotics or industrial automation
Experience as a lab instructor
Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards as they apply to industrial automation
