The need to avoid future climate impacts is recognised by global governments. The urgency of the global climate response means that funding and prioritisation of actions must focus on ‘win-win’ responses that promote both mitigation and adaptation at the same time, minimising trade-offs and maximising benefits. Despite this, until recently there has been relatively limited focus on the co-benefits of alternative decarbonisation pathways and the trade-offs that result when aspects such as health, economic prosperity and air quality are considered alongside climate goals. Working with the Met Office, the School of Earth and Environment is exploring how co-benefits and trade-offs manifest along alternative future pathways in global regions.
You will work with leading interdisciplinary researchers in climate modelling and adaptation research at Leeds to assess the synergies and trade-offs of selected mitigation and adaptation intervention options for selected impact priorities and global regions. You will lead evidence synthesis on decarbonisation pathways and adaptation to develop evidence matrices that can inform climate policy choices in the UK and globally. You will gain experience in interdisciplinary climate research and co-benefits analysis. You will have the opportunity to engage in strategic research design, leadership, and networking among internationally-recognised senior scholars. We are looking for an interdisciplinary scholar with expertise in climate change policy and systematic evidence synthesis. You will be intellectually curious and interested in the interface of science and policy.
