Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The position will focus on maintaining, upgrading and configuring the network and its associated servers as well as installing and upgrading the OS and software packages on the Math Department computers. This position also has the job of developing/maintaining web apps for use in the department.

50%
Ensure the smooth operation of the math departments computers, servers, and networked storage. Maintain and upgrade the department Ubuntu Linux, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, file, database, print, backup and web servers. Evaluate, recommend, and implement new trends in computer infrastructure and IT services for continuous improvement.

25%
Provide direct support to administrative/instructional staff on an as-needed basis to develop and maintain software/web application solutions for managing the large amount of data the Math Department uses in the course of operations.

Provide expert knowledge to researchers in the use of networked and distributed systems to simulate mathematical models. Work with researchers to develop innovative ways to use computers and servers to advance mathematical research.

Security: Initiate, manage, document and maintain cybersecurity initiatives within the department. Manage network internal and campus firewalls. Manage apps to maintain patching, security posture, imaging.

EDUCATION:
Required
Associate's Degree

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
Min 3 years experience with PHP and Python
Min 2 years experience with Linux system administration
Demonstrated service-centered written and verbal communication skills

In addition, top candidates will possess:
Bash scripting and Perl experience.
Experience working with mathematical computation software and/or Condor
Exposure to end-user support
Exposure to either HTC, HPC and/or GPU computing
