Job Description

Manage the Office of Student Success overseeing student services; Design, plan, deliver, and evaluate programs/services to ensure recruitment and retention of students within an inclusive excellence framework; Coordinate student activities across programs with college and university organizations.

The College of Health invites applications for the Director of Student Services. The Director will design, deliver and evaluate programs and services for recruitment and retention of students within an inclusive excellence framework. This will include coordinating and evaluating college student recruitment and admission activities, working with professional advisors and faculty to create programming to increase and sustain rates of student persistence and retention, working with the Deans office in all areas of student-related policies and procedures, and serving as a college liaison to university student services.

Job Function:

Manage the Office of Student Success overseeing student services; Design, plan, deliver, and evaluate programs/services to ensure recruitment and retention of students within an inclusive excellence framework; Coordinate student activities across programs with college and university organizations.

Minimum Education:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education:

Doctorate in Higher Education/Student Services.

Minimum Experience:

Three years of experience in higher education student programming such as advising, admissions, retention; supervisory experience.


Preferred Experience:

Demonstrated experience in leading teams and conflict management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with college and university personnel to create student success initiatives, including admission and retention,
    -Investigate models of student success in health professions for possible adaptation or adoption 
    -Coordinate college recruitment and admission activities, including for example Preview Day, using principles of inclusive excellence
    -Work closely with first-year and upper-division advisors as well as personnel in the First Year Experience program to increase and sustain rates of student persistence and university retention
    -Direct comprehensive student programming events, such as Preview Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend/Dean's List/Scholarship Reception, and others
    -Facilitate scholarship selection processes
    -Coordinate student organization activities
    -Interface with marketing and communication personnel to use social media to promote programs, events, and activities and enhance student culture

  • Gather, evaluate and report data related to student success including persistence and retention.
    -Use available program, department, college, and university data and consider additional sources to evaluate student success vis-à-vis persistence, retention, and graduation
    -Coordinate with university systems to provide regular reports on admission, registration, courses with high rates of poor performance and withdrawal, and retention
    -Collect, maintain, and report student and program data to internal and external entities in a timely and accurate manner
    -Collaborate with academic programs to ensure effective collection and implementation of measurement of student engagement and learning

  • Assist Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in all areas of student-related policies and procedures. 
    -Interpret and enforce student-related policies and procedures
    -Manage transfer articulation pathways

  • Serve as liaison to university student services offices, including Admissions, Freshman/Central Advising, Registrar, Honors College, Scholarships & Financial Aid, University Student Affairs, University College, Graduate College, Rinker Center for International Programs, Career Center, Online and Strategic Learning, among others.

  • Perform other student success and engagement-related duties as assigned.
