Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:
For this position, candidates must have at least one of the following: 
1. Master’s in physics, astronomy or astrophysics from an accredited college or university, OR 
2. Bachelor’s in physics or astronomy AND Master’s in engineering, mathematics, meteorology or geophysics, OR 
3. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990); OR 
 4. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items 1 or 2 above.

Desired Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those candidates demonstrating a high level of expertise on the basis of: 
  • Experience teaching physics or astronomy at the college level 
  • Advanced degree in physics (Master’s or Ph.D.).
  • One-year recent full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience teaching physics and/or astronomy, lecture and laboratory, at the college level.
  • Ability to address the instructional needs of a diverse student population that may include African Americans, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other marginalized groups.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience developing curriculum in physics or astronomy.
  • Commitment to remaining current in physics and/or astronomy including developments in instructional pedagogy.
  • Experience with and commitment to the use of a Learning Management System (LMS) for the administration of courses and communication with students.
  • Experience integrating current instructional technology in the classroom.
