The University of North Texas System Office of Strategic Infrastructure Planning & Construction delivers outstanding, sustainable, and enduring construction projects that maximize value while supporting the mission of each campus.
With a staff of experienced professionals, the Office of Strategic Infrastructure Planning & Construction provides professional planning, design, and construction management services for complex renovation and new construction projects at locations across UNT World. These responsibilities range from initial project development through programming, design, construction, and commissioning.
The Senior Project Engineer serves as the lead point of contact for complex capital projects $25M or larger in scope and leads the programming, design, and the execution of construction of major renovations and new construction projects for the University of North Texas System and its component institutions. This owner’s representative position leads all aspects of project management, driving project success through team engagement, superior communication, and customer service. The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the project from inception to close out. This position requires a broad-based knowledge of all phases of commercial building design, construction, and maintenance with a strong background in mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) equipment and systems, including energy management system interfaces.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or closely related field and eight years of project management-related experience, licensed professional engineer
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to comprehend technical design documents of mechanical, electrical, and other building systems to assist in the evaluation of energy projects
Practical experience in building systems.
Experience in Reviewing and evaluating building MEP plans and specifications.
Strong management, leadership, and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to establish strong working relationships
Strong project management skills with knowledge of facility management principles and practices in a higher education setting
Expertise in development and implementation of design and construction projects on a university campus
Ability to handle management of multiple projects simultaneously
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat
Knowledge of construction types, delivery methods, and the advantages of each in an educational setting
Working knowledge of building systems and site design as they relate to a building project
Knowledge of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and local building codes relating to construction or renovation projects
Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
State of Texas professional license or ability to transfer within 6 months
Experience related to campus planning, design, and construction
Experience managing major construction projects valued at $25M or greater
Knowledge of sustainability practices
Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit, Sketch-up, or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.)
Proficient in Microsoft Project and PlanGrid
Experience working with IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery of Indefinite Quantity) contracts for professional services
Experience working with cooperative (Job Order Contracts) contracts for construction services
Experience working with project management software
Active membership in a professional organization
Owner’s representative experience
Required License / Registration / Certification
Licensed professional engineer
