Are you a project manager with significant experience of planning and delivering complex multi-partner projects? Do you thrive on organising inputs from colleagues, national and international partners in the coordination of a successful research programme? Are you passionate about playing a leading role in a successful redevelopment and established world-leading research facility at the University? We are seeking such an individual to manage an upgrade programme to the existing University of Leeds Driving Simulator (UoLDS) within the Virtuocity research suite.

Since it was initially commissioned in 2006, the University of Leeds Driving Simulator (UoLDS) has become a leading research facility of its type, and the central laboratory space within Virtuocity. The Virtuocity research staff are an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, social scientists, physiologists, engineers, ergonomists and computer scientists, undertaking cutting-edge research into the future of urban mobility and the interactions between road users and new technologies. UoLDS provides a safe and controlled virtual vehicle driving environment to support this work.

After sixteen years of operation, the time has come to refresh the original UoLDS design in order to upgrade its motion system, vehicle cab and projection system. We are seeking to appoint a high calibre Programme Manager to oversee this redevelopment work, to ensure that UoLDS remains at the cutting-edge for research into the human factors of driving, intelligent transport systems and future vehicle design. In the short-term, by coordinating a multi-faceted team of internal software developers, vehicle manufacturers and commercial hardware suppliers, you will play a key role in maintaining the simulator’s international reputation of excellence at a technical level, the high quality of research which it underpins, its rigorous safety standards and its well-maintained operation. In the longer term, the role will involve championing research opportunities in line with the emerging areas of future urban transport.
