Saint Mary's College seeks to hire an Independent Studies Instructor to teach PERFA 340, Dance Stage Management, in the MFA in Dance Graduate Program Spring 2022.

Time: TBD

The MFA in Dance Program is a 9 semester, in-person and online program with classes for Creative Practice and Design and Production for Dance. The courses are designed around faculty mentoring, collaboration and collective communication with a somatic and social justice focus.

The duties for the course are to meet with the students, set assignments for Stage Management, grade any assignments or papers, and be a point of contact for any questions the students might have about the material.

PERFA-340 Dance Stage Management

Stage Management is a course designed to teach students the responsibilities and functions of a stage manager. Students learn the production process through the eyes of this key role from pre-production to the first rehearsal to closing night and beyond. Students develop an understanding of skills and qualities necessary to run a show in an efficient and positive manner.

Qualifications: A master's degree in a field closely related to dance, design and production, producing, management, or other related field.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student learning and student-centered teaching in the liberal arts.

The course is a beginning costume design and construction workshop. The course will give the students the basic understanding of the principles of costume design. Costume construction will give the student the basic sewing skills to construct a garment.
