Position Summary

The Research Project Coordinator collaborates with the Department Chair, Research Project & Regulatory Manager, Research Business Management, other department investigators, project managers and lab teams to coordinate and support the research activities of the Department of Translational Research & Cellular Therapeutics.  The position will assume the primary administrative management of the Arthur Riggs diabetes institute service centers by acting as the liaison between the Department Chair, service centers Managers and Scientific Leads, on one hand and all potential faculty users and their teams on the other.  He/she will also be responsible to coordinate all other scientific and service programs such as islet production and distribution, islet and tissue banking, human pancreas development atlas programs. He will also assist with organization of national and international events such as the Riggs-Levine annual symposium and the advancement of this program from a single multiday annual event to an ongoing yearlong of education program with membership and several web-based educational event besides the annual meeting. He/she will assist with establishment and running of collaborative relationships with other departments and programs within the AR-DMRI, other academic institutions within Southern California, the whole country and the rest of the world. He/She will assist the Department Chair and other project leads to track and support laboratory and clinical research project performance, accountability and reporting. The research project coordinator will ensure high level of department organization and efficiency to prevent delays in meeting expectations. This job requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, self-motivation, creativity, and meticulous documentation.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Will be responsible for the administrative activities of the Service centers and the special research and educational programs organized and/or run by the department of translational research and cellular therapeutics in order to achieve a high level of organization and efficiency in providing service to the entirety of the DMRI, nationally and worldwide and ensure adherence to research project milestones & timelines and other translational research endeavors and commitments for the department.
  • Help Chair, faculty and research teams navigate currently available resources and pursue additional resources that may be required in order to meet scientific milestones and expectations. 
  • Tracks and assists with preparing periodic updates to leadership regarding the progress of ongoing research projects.
  • Keeps timeline for all relevant deadline dates.  
  • Provides service in a manner consistent with his/her specific role and function according to COH policy and procedure.
  • Maintains current knowledge and awareness of organizational and regulatory standards, policies and procedures relevant to the Arthur Riggs Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute. 
  • Participates in a collaborative, empowered work environment as demonstrated through teamwork.
  • Effectively communicates with all relevant parties within the institution in order to meet COH organization goals.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by appropriate and timely use of organizational resources.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement activities through data collection and/or participation in corrective action plans to continuously improve program goals and activities.
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.  Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.  

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in life sciences
  • Two or more years experience in a healthcare research setting. 
  • Foster and promote a positive image and professional appearance.
