Job Description

Position Description

Rider University seeks an adjunct instructor of journalism or communications for the Fall 2022 semester (9/7 to 12/21). This position is to co-teach BHP 261, The Online Explosion, with an instructor from the business school. This course will be taught on campus in person from 4:30-6:00 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Note: this class is not taught regularly and will not be offered every semester.

Course Description:

Compared to a world just one generation ago when business people composed memos on typewriters and communicated with fax machines, the online explosion has brought forward a flood of new communication tools and social media platforms. It has created new types of businesses that would have been unimaginable just a short time ago and has revolutionized the way people communicate, socialize, and shop. The explosion of the web has also led to work environments in which employees are always “connected,” and has raised concerns about personal privacy. We will guide students through a critical evaluation of these radical changes, with an eye on their benefits as well as potential negative consequences.

Position Requirements

  • Master’s degree in journalism or communications or relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in many aspects of the internet, including social media and digital communications.

The successful candidate will be dynamic in the classroom, up to date with online technology, such as Zoom and Canvas, and dedicated to our students’ learning and development.

Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in teaching at the college level is preferred.
