Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, this individual will serve as the lead athletic trainer for the Football program. Perform duties as assigned with the health care program and as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Job Function:

Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, this individual will serve as the lead athletic trainer for the Football program. Perform duties as assigned with the health care program and as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by date of employment; Indiana Athletic Trainer State License or eligible for licensure.

Preferred Education:

Master’s degree.

Minimum Experience:

At least three years of related experience.

Preferred Experience:

At least five years of related experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletically injured student-athletes, in conjunction with team physicians and appropriate affiliated medical personnel.

  • Primary sports responsibilities include practice and game coverage, travel, and emergency medical care preparation.

  • Direct supervision for (1) full-time assistant athletic trainer with primary responsibility for football as related to performance, clinical skill, rehabilitation, emergency procedures, practices, and event coverage. Assists in the oversight of other assistant athletic trainers as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

  • Coordinate mental and behavioral health/wellness referrals to student-athletes as indicated.
  • Properly documents injuries as well as treatments and rehabilitation sessions of injured student-athletes.

  • Follow prescribed rehabilitation and treatment protocols of team physicians when providing healthcare for injured or sick student-athletes.

  • Communicate effectively with sports performance team members regarding the injured student-athletes strength and conditioning parameters and limitations associated with injury rehabilitation.

  • Provide daily injury/illness reports to coaches, Head ATC, and Sport Administrator with current physical conditions of student-athletes.
  • Assist in the daily supervision and educational instruction of student assistants and interns.

  • Maintain liaison between healthcare providers and BSU Athletic Department concerning office appointments, daily treatments, rehabilitation/exercise programs, medical records, and daily restrictions and modifications for athletes.

  • Assist with drug testing for student-athletes.

  • Coordinate CPR training with Head ATC and maintain records to ensure compliance.

  • Show commitment to and responsibility for, adherence to all rules and regulations of Ball State University, the Mid-American Conference and the NCAA.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
