Penn State Schuylkill is searching for a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Nursing to join our Health Sciences faculty to teach in our BSN program, which we recently launched in conjunction with the Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing. The successful candidate will teach medical/surgical, gerontological and general nursing courses. The position is a full-time, limited-term, 36-weeks-per-year appointment with full benefits. Limited-term positions have a two-year contract, with contract renewal based on performance. The successful candidate will begin teaching in Fall 2022 with an anticipated start date as early as August 2022.

Responsibilities:

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching medical/surgical, gerontological courses and general nursing courses. Primary responsibilities will include coordination and instruction in medical/surgical and gerontological nursing courses, including classroom and clinical teaching. Simulation and virtual teaching experience are preferred. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include advising students, participating in committees, and other service and scholarly activities as appropriate. There is an expectation that the faculty member will be involved in research, scholarship and/or quality improvement initiatives that benefit the campus, the college, the university, our students and the community and will also provide service to the campus, discipline and society.

Qualifications:

Candidates for the position will possess at a minimum a master’s degree in Nursing and eligibility for RN licensure in Pennsylvania. Individuals with a master’s degree will be considered at the rank of instructor, and individuals with a doctoral degree (e.g. DNP, PhD) will be considered at the rank of assistant teaching professor. An earned Doctorate degree will be a condition of continued employment after the fifth year for a candidate hired as instructor.

CNE certification is highly preferred. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment, engagement with fellow faculty members in ways that contribute to a scholarly community on campus, active leadership in campus life, and engagement in the community through outreach activities that address regional needs are required. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the use of instructional technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
