What Your Job Will Be Like: We are looking for innovators with a background in power electronics and controls! Join our premier research and development group focused on pushing the performance limits of electrical systems through the development, execution, and analysis of advanced power electronic and control technologies. There are opportunities to aid in the qualification of components and systems in electromagnetic environments as well as opportunities to do first principles research, attend and present at conferences, publish research, and collaborate with the world’s experts in electromagnetics. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Creation and development of advanced technologies for converting and moving electrical energy for national security needs. + Use and development of concepts to enable greater resilience through architectures and controls, higher switching frequencies, and increased efficiency + Supporting the design and evaluation of critical components and systems. + Assurance of safe and secure operations that are consistent with ES&H and security Join our team and achieve your goals while making a difference! Qualifications We Require: + PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field + Experience in the physical phenomena associated with power electronic based systems + Experience in applied research + Experience publishing in conferences or journals + Ability to obtain and maintain a Q-level clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Five years or more of experience in experimental power electronics and controls research. + An understanding of fundamental power electronic and controls topics such as switch mode energy conversion, electromagnetic compatibility, thermal dissipation, electrical breakdown, system control, and optimization. + Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the development and delivery of presentations, proposals and reports About Our Team: Department 1353 is a multidisciplinary research and development group supporting NNSA Defense and Work for Other (WFO) Programs. Our capabilities include experimental electromagnetics, the design and manufacturing of advanced power electronics, compact high current drivers, electron beam accelerators, x-ray sources, development and analysis of advanced materials and components, and plasma physics. Department 1353 employs a comprehensive research approach that includes analysis, simulation, and hardware verification.
