Job DescriptionJob Summary
Responsible for analysis of crime trends and predictive modeling. Responsible for authenticating, extracting, and analyzing administrative and strategic crime data. Responsible for maintaining and developing financial and technical tools to track key performance indicators and assist with strategic planning and optimum resource allocation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Researches, analyzes, and interprets qualitative and quantitative data using statistical analysis tools to prepare, validate, update, and oversee the completion of various reports; develops and maintains reporting processes; supports command staff and university administration with ad hoc analysis and reporting.
Models multi-dimensional data within the analytics data warehouse.
Authenticates and extracts data from SQL databases; coordinates with records management system vendors as needed. Prepares documentation and presents recommendations.
Provides analysis of calls for service, crime and traffic trends, investigative performance, response times, call processing times, racial profiling data, intelligence, staffing and resource allocation, personnel and department performance, and other analytics to command staff; creates mapping, graphing and other reporting products for the analysis listed above; creates graphs and infographics to visualize complex data; identifies and reports spatial and temporal trends and patterns of criminal activity and trends.
Manages special projects at the direction of command staff. Assists with requests for department data (from staff, other departments, public information requests, etc.). Works to automate and streamline existing, inefficient processes. Attends meetings to maintain current knowledge of latest technology, crime analysis processes, best practices, etc. Liaisons with other law enforcement agencies and crime/intelligence analysts to share data, information and intelligence. Supports other departmental functions with projects and data analysis.
Prepares financial feasibility studies and develops predictive/forecast modeling for various staffing, budgetary and financial projects to support senior leadership in strategic planning and decision-making.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Field and/or Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics or related discipline; plus, five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, forecasting and analysis.
Two years of experience researching, strategic planning, analyzing and interpreting data, preferably in a law enforcement environment.
Ability to work well and collaborate with people in all levels of the organization.
Excellent organization, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills. Proficiency with authenticating and extracting data from and managing SQL databases.
Previous experience with analyzing data using SAS, Tableau, R or other statistical analysis tools in validating and publishing internal and external reports on data, crime, performance and financial analysis.
Proficiency in crime trend statistics and analysis.
Must have intermediate to advanced level skills with MS Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience in database management (SQL, C-tree, etc.), data extraction and analysis, data driven research and/or predictive analysis is require.
Must possess strong critical thinking skills.
Ability to meet strict deadlines.
Ability to use discretionary judgment in determining data to be gathered and disseminated.
Ability to use advanced initiative and independent judgment in performance of duties.
Ability to prepare and present reports and dashboards to diverse audiences, including upper management and university administration is required.
Ability to design and develop user-friend reports from large volumes of raw crime data.
Displays attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to determine appropriate methodology to research and analyze varied complex data to arrive at logical and documented conclusions.
Ability to determine the appropriate application on various software programs in order to obtain usable results based on the needs of users.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, preparing charts, graphs, and other visual information; delivering presentations to groups; completing qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
Must be able to pass a police background check.
Specific job requirements render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
Master’s degree in a related field of study and seven years of directly related experience.
Experience in a law enforcement or government environment. Proficiency with utilizing analytical tools such as SAS, Tableau, and/or R is preferred.
