Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a Research Technician  at the Department of Ophthalmology to apply the genomic methods to address translational and clinical bioinformatic challenges pertaining to ophthalmic health and diseases. She/He will play a key role in expanding next-generation sequencing (NGS) bioinformatics capabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating and analyzing DNA and RNA sequencing data and building scalable computational processing pipelines. The candidate should have a strong computational background, demonstrated knowledge of research methods, have interest in biomedical genomics research, and succeed working both collaboratively as a team member and individually.

Job Duties

  • Design, implement, and operate bioinformatics pipelines using existing analytical tools for NGS applications.
  • Integrate open source NGS software packages to continuously improve NGS pipelines
  • Summarize, visualize, and communicate to bioinformatic analyses to principal investigator.
  • Apply intellectual curiosity and passion for applying data science to biomedical problems. 
  • Design and develop data analysis, data visualization, dashboards, graphs and figures.
  • Conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's in Genetics, Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • The candidate should have a strong computational background Science with the ability to code in Python and R.
  • Previous experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data is a plus.
