--- Performs venipuncture and medical testing on research participants in a community-based setting, collects specimens, and transports blood specimens.
Duties:
- Processes laboratory orders from providers.
- Documents HIPAA required information and verifies patient information before collection of specimens.
- Responsible for efficiently and accurately performing venipuncture on patients or study participants.
- Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection on the vials and delivers specimen samples to the laboratory for processing and testing.
- Collects specimens from adults and children such as stool and urine. Instructs patients in self-collect specimens.
- Performs various medical tests such as urinalysis or centrifuge blood samples.
- Prepares specimens for transport.
- Labels all samples and storage tubes and logs all samples obtained into the database.
- Transports specimens to laboratories and departments.
- Maintains equipment associated with venipuncture.
- May clean, store, and order such equipment.
- Ensures patient privacy adhering to Health Insurance and Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures, Federal, State, and local regulations and standards.
- Documents testing and results in a quality control log.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Job Requirements
--- Education: High School Diploma, GED, or completed a Phlebotomy Program
Experience: 6 months experience as a Phlebotomist
Certifications/ Licenses:
- High School Diploma, GED, or completed a Phlebotomy Program
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
