For more than 40 years, The University of Oklahoma Outreach, National Resource Center for Youth Services (NRCYS) has been improving the effectiveness of human services through training, capacity-building consultation, and other services.

Over the years, our resources have helped support the missions of various human service organizations in Oklahoma and across the nation.

NRCYS is looking for Trainers committed to providing training and consultation grounded in five core principles for working with children, youth, and families (Trauma Responsiveness, Youth Development, Permanent Connections, Cultural Responsiveness, and Collaboration).  

 

Position Summary:

This position supports the Oklahoma Successful Adulthood Program (OKSA). It will assist eligible current and former foster youth's transition into adulthood through various services, including individualized assistance and connection to statewide resources and services. This position provides specialized consultation to young people and professionals, functioning as a subject matter expert in youth engagement, transition planning, life skills education, and statewide community resources. Our goal is to ensure that young people have the tools and resources needed for a successful transition to adulthood and are empowered to plan for their future outside of foster care. The ideal candidate will need to possess a positive attitude, be customer service-oriented, have strong communication skills, and enjoy talking to people daily.

Duties:

  1. Answer the statewide toll-free Helpline during office hours, and provide knowledge of available resources and support to assist young people in successfully transitioning out of foster care. (30%)
  2. Provide customer service in a trauma-informed, supportive fashion to youth who may be in crisis or struggle with communication skills. (10%)
  3. Determine eligibility of youth who request services and set up cases in the OKDHS KIDS and OKSA databases, maintaining accurate records of all services. (10%)
  4. Coach adult partners on how to complete tasks, provide trauma-informed services and encourage positive youth development. (10%)
  5. Develop and deliver capacity-building technical assistance to individuals and organizations working with children, youth, and families. (10%)
  6. Write professional correspondence and other project-related documents. (10%)
  7. Identify, facilitate, and participate in internal and external collaborations on current trends, best practices, and program development through meetings, telephone, and email correspondence. (5%)
  8. Create and develop best practice tools, activities, and resources to support service delivery and understanding. (5%)
  9. Maintain knowledge and skills about legislation, best practices, and child, youth, and family services trends. (5%)
  10. Utilize data to guide work-related decisions. (5%)
  11. Uphold, safeguard, and engage in activities to support the University's mission, NRCYS vision, mission, values, and core principles of NRCYS.

Job Requirements:

 

Required Education:  Bachelor's degree in human services, education, or closely related field.

 

Experience:  18-36 months in any of the following areas or a combination of one or more of the following: 

  • Supporting youth in a successful transition to adulthood
  • Customer service provision via phone, email, text, or social media
  • Youth work (child welfare, child/youth/family services, juvenile justice, education, treatment services, mental health, community-based services)
  • Youth development and leadership activities
  • Services to foster healthy youth development
  • Services to promote healthy life span development
  • Trauma responsive service provision

 

Required Skills and Proficiencies:

  1. Demonstrable youth/adult engagement skills
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills (including the ability to deliver high-quality customer service and participate in cross-departmental work teams)
  3. Highly proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
  4. Effectively convey information clearly and concisely utilizing both oral and written communication
  5. Possess a proactive mindset with the ability to think critically, problem-solve, and exercise professional judgment
  6. Knowledge of statewide service systems (mental health, community-based services, child welfare, education, etc.).
  7. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  8. Ability to provide high-quality services while managing multiple projects under strict deadlines.
  9. Commitment to lifelong learning and professional development (including knowledge of accessing child welfare legislation and continuing education resources).
  10. Cultural humility and responsiveness knowledge and skills, including understanding its relevance to training.

 

Departmental Preferences:

Master's degree in human services, education, or closely related field and experience in: 

  • Experience collaborating with public and private child welfare and/or child and youth-serving organizations.
  • Knowledge regarding environmental and relational permanency.
  • National child welfare federal legislation, practices, policies, and initiatives.
  • Data collection and management.
  • Regional or national conference planning and/or workshop presentation.
  • Curriculum design, development, and evaluation (e.g., instructional design, adult learning principles).
  • Experience with online and blended learning development and delivery.
  • Program assessment and evaluation.

 

Supervision:  This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
