The Performing Arts Department requires a part time faculty member to teach PERFA 19-02 in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.

Music Production Manager and crew instructor

PERFA 19-02 (.33) Instrumental Ensembles, TH 5:45-7:45pm

Course descriptions:

PERFA 19-02 Instrumental Ensembles is an ensemble course that prepares students for all aspects of concert performances. Students receive (1) music instruction from faculty Directors, Assistant Directors, and accompanists, (2) audio technical instruction by the faculty Sound Engineer, and (3) production management and crew training from the Music Production Manager.

The Production Manager is responsible for all scheduling and management for the instrumental and choral ensembles concert activity, both on and off campus and/or mentoring music majors who are preparing a senior recital in music production management. The professor is also the teacher for the crew for each ensemble concert produced by the music program.

The Music Production Manager must:
  1. create a syllabus for the students clarifying their roles as a crew, and manage all related coursework, assessment, and grading.
  2. create the production and marketing calendar with a timeline of tasks and deadlines.
  3. schedule all rehearsals for Syufy Hall (rooms 110, 210, and Practice Room A) and maintain this calendar.
  4. confirm sound support needs for ongoing rehearsals in collaboration with the Sound Engineer
  5. be available for consultation during the production and design process relating to each concert for the entire school year.
  6. schedule, create the agenda for, facilitate and attend production meetings for each concert. Exact time for the regular production meetings will be scheduled based on faculty availability.
  7. coordinate with the Performing Arts Department Technical DIrector about all performances in LeFevre Theatre and any site-specific work connected with a music program sponsored concert.
  8. attend all Performing Arts Department production meetings.
  9. attend dress rehearsals on dates tbd.
  10. assist with student crews, oversee the placement of risers, stands, piano, etc., and any lighting / video camera placement for recording.
  11. attend technical/dress rehearsals and performances for each production to supervise the students, exact times to be announced.
  12. oversee and participate in the strike, following the productions.
  13. maintain budget oversight for the fall and spring music concerts. Budget provided by the Music Program Director.
  14. secure photographers and videographers for each concert in consultation with the Performing Arts Program Manager.
  15. delegate tasks as appropriate to Assistant Production Manager (if there is one).
  16. assist the Music Program Director with the scheduling of off-campus performances and related paperwork.
  17. in consultation with the Music Program Director, mentor seniors through the process of senior recital Production Management.

The successful candidate will have professional experience in working in a college environment in production management. MFA degree or equivalent professional experience in production management are required.
