Job Description


The lab of Dr. Anthony Mustoe (Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Therapeutic Innovation Center) is seeking a talented programmer and bioinformatician to aid our efforts developing new tools for defining RNA structure and function in living cells. This position will principally focus on implementing new features in our existing custom Python packages for processing large-scale genomics datasets. Additionally, this position will assist other lab members in implementing existing and new approaches for interpreting results, including analyzing complementary large-scale genomics datasets. 

Job Duties

  • Develops new features for Python and C++ data analysis packages
  • Collaborates with other lab members to design and code custom analysis scripts
  • Perform analyses using existing bioinformatics software tools
  • Track project data and report analysis results
  • Assist PI in managing lab computing environment

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biological Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field.
  • Prior experience coding in Python.
  • Prior experience in biology, bioinformatics, or biophysics fields
  • Experience with analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
  • Experience installing software and managing Linux/UNIX environments
  • Understanding of fundamental statistical concepts (e.g. significance testing, standard statistical tests)
