As of member of the Athletic Development team, the role of Director of Athletic Development/Senior Associate Athletics Director is to advance the strategic goals, revenue and philathropic priorities of the Office of Strategic Partnerships and Advancement (SPA) and Department of Athletics. Reporting to the AVP of Athletics and Advancement, this position leads and executes athletic development annual programming, including personal solicitation of portfolio of assigned prospects and donors, online communications, direct response vehicles, event sponsorship, and volunteer driven solicitations, towards meeting the strategic goals. A primary focus of this position will be towards leadership giving ($5,000+) and major gifts ($25,000,) while working closely with coaches and campus partners to solicit and close these donations and pledges.

The Director leads and collaborates programming with multiple members of the SPA and Athletics team, primarily Digital Philanthropy, Major Gifts, Advancement Services, Stewardship, and athletic staff and coaches as necessary, to execute comprehensive alumni, parent, and friend planned athletic solicitation outreach.

This position requires a strategic vision for increasing athletic based revenue through philanthropic means to the College through varied and coordinated upgrade strategies to impact a growing pipeline of athletic supporters. This position will serve as a partner within SPA, Athletics and community engagement to build a competitive "culture of engagement" leading to philanthropic support for athletics. The Director will further develop a best-practice based athletic development function that is goal-oriented and results focused, in consultation with other NCAA Division I institutions for benchmarking purposes. The Director will also serve on the Athletics Administrative Leadership team.

Within 12-18 months, this position will be responsible for $1M in philanthropic revenue, including but not limited to donations, pledges, annuall giving, event sponsorships, estate/legacy gifts, etc.

1. Portfolio Management: Manage a robust portfolio of prospects and donors, with a focus on leadership ($5,000+) and major gifts ($25,000+) to meet monthly, quarterly and annual goals for front line fundraising effort, leading towards solicitations annually of prospects in portfolio, with agreed upon annual goals for solicitation and closure. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors towards Athletic and SPA strategic goals and initiatives.

Partner with SPA and Athletic constituents to achieve these goals.

Establish and continually build relationships with VP of Intercollegiate Athletics, coaches, key volunteers, VP of SPA, President to achieve goals and work through the philanthropic cycle of prospects.

Goals will include:
-monthly visit goals (15-20)
-prospect visits with campus partners (4-5 per month)
-solicitation of $500,000 from prospects in portfolio

2. Collaboration: Collaborate and coordinate with athletics staff, coaches, advancement colleagues, campus partners, volunteer committees (including GAC), sponsors, and volunteers to create timely, accurate, efficient and innovative athletic development programming, based on best practice strategies for a competitive Division I Athletics program.?

Team fund and unrestricted programming, planning and execution goals will be created based on FY22 results and FY23 plan. This position will play a major role in the execution of the annual plan. ?

3. Strategic Planning, Best Practices and Effectiveness: Monitor trends in Athletic Development and Philanthropy. Thought partner and active participant in the strategic and annual planning for Athletic Development.

The VP of Intercollegiate Athletics, VP of SPA and AVP work throughout the year on the annual Athletic Development Fundraising Plan and this position will be a thought partner and key contributor to executing the plan.

4. Discovery and Prospecting: Leverage expertise, contacts, connections networking and campus partner relationships to discover and meet new prospects. The discovery of new prospects is key to the continual growth of fundraising revenue. Goals will be created accordingly.

5. Annual Giving and Special Projects: Lead and collaborate on special projects, including but not limited to: Giving Tuesday, 1Day1SMC.

These two events have grown to raise more than $200,000 annually. Goals will be created for these projects.

The Director will be asked to participate in special projects related to portfolio work, athletic initiatives, etc. (athletics capital projects, stewardship, events, etc.) ?

6. Other duties as assigned: VP of Intercollegiate Athletics, VP of SPA, AVP Athletics and Advancement projects, reports and meetings.

Experience and Qualifications

Education: REQUIRED: BA/BS Preferred: MA

Experience: Bachelor's degree; 5+ years experience in Athletic Development, Philanthropy, Major Giving, or related fields; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Exceptional writing, administrative, and interpersonal skills required.

Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated experience in direct-response programming. Expertise in English grammar, punctuations, and syntax; use of best practices in direct-response writing, understanding of branding and positioning strategies, ability to learn subject-specific terminology for use in developing print, verbal and online communication; knowledge multi channel communication. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint required. Demonstrated knowledge of marketing materials and reports. Comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. Strong communication and writing skills for all mediums. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Ability to produce high-quality work on deadline. Knowledge of all aspects of sophisticated fundraising programs, strong organizational and analytical skills, and demonstrated business planning and project management skills.

Other Requirements: Frequent weekend and evening work required, some travel as appropriate.
