Summary

The Postdoctoral Fellow will investigate the molecular, cellular, and network mechanisms that contribute to cognitive and behavioral deficits in neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy. Mouse models of disease will be studied using a multi-disciplinary approach, including molecular biology and biochemistry, behavioral assessments, in vivo EEG, and pharmacological and viral strategies to manipulate gene expression. These studies will enable the understanding of disease pathophysiology and development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Job Duties

  • Designs experimental strategies and plans independent projects to investigate mechanisms of neurological disorders.
  • Plans, conducts, and analyzes biochemical experiments to investigate signaling pathways involved in neurological disorders.
  • Plans, conducts, and analyzes behavioral assessments of mouse models of disease to test cognition, emotional behavior, and other types of behavior.
  • Performs experiments with post-mortem patient samples to investigate mechanisms identified in mouse models.
  • Writes manuscripts to describe the results of the studies completed.
  • Assists with grant application preparation.
  • Presents research at local meetings and BCM neuroscience program retreat.
  • Presents research at national and/or international meetings.
  • Works with collaborating labs to further our joint research endeavors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD is required.
