Job Description

Summary

The Research Associate performs complex research of an advanced nature under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The RA functions somewhat independently to assist with and conduct laboratory experiments. They require a high-level of skills and expertise in the area of research specialty.

Job Duties

  • Collect, prepare, analyze, dissect and evaluate specimens and/or tissue cultures
  • Assist in making chemical analyses of body fluids and tissues; performs venipuncture and obtains blood specimens
  • Weigh and anesthetize laboratory animals for experiments and maintains records on such animals relative to feeding and physical condition
  • Operate laboratory equipment, contributes to laboratory maintenance
  • Perform a variety of assays, tests, and studies of a routing nature
  • Perform calculations to complete research test results; collate data; perform statistical analysis of lab results and maintain notes and log or computer database
  • Perform electron microscopy, x-ray, and electrochemical techniques
  • Assist with small animal surgery
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment
  • Maintain highly detailed records
  • Perform specialized and complex experiments in such areas a molecular biology, cell culture

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.
