Job Description

Are you a dynamic and highly motivated researcher in concrete technology, specialised in durability of concrete materials? Do you have experience in the production and durability testing of concrete?  Are you an ambitious researcher looking for a new and exciting challenge as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the field of cement and concrete technology? Do you want to evaluate the suitability of existing chloride durability testing methods to determine performance of low-carbon concretes?

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the successful applicant will investigate durability testing of concretes containing low carbon cements. You will produce concretes and evaluate their strength development, as well as their performance when exposed to chloride-rich environments. You will focus on determining the suitability of existing standardised testing methods to interrogate chloride permeability, considering the effects of concrete mix design and testing conditions specified in different standards and/or well stablished testing protocols.

You will conduct the research at the UKCRIC National Centre for Infrastructure Materials at the University of Leeds, accessing state of the art cyclic corrosion chambers to simulate different chloride exposure environments, as well as rapid chloride permeability equipment.

With a background in Civil, Materials, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or a closely allied discipline, you will have extensive experience in production and durability testing of concrete, particularly evaluating chloride permeability. A strong knowledge of existing national and international standards for concrete testing, as well as experience in developing novel testing protocols for concrete durability evaluation will be desirable.

We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
