Job Description


Responsible for planning, scheduling and supervising maintenance personnel in the completion of their duties.


Plans work activities and establishes work schedules and staffing requirements.
May assist in interviewing, selection, promotion and evaluation of applicants and employees according to university policies and procedures.
Estimates job requirements, including staffing, equipment, parts, materials and supplies for designated work unit.
Procures parts and services for area of responsibility.
Trains group leaders and other employees in new or revised work methods and procedures and orients new employees.
Monitors the effectiveness of preventive maintenance program and provides information about new equipment and technology for program updates.
Responsible for managing contractors in responsibility area.
Assists with resolving employee complaints and grievances, which may include attendance at complaint or grievance hearings and meetings. Initiates disciplinary processes when necessary.
Maintains safety and health standards to ensure compliance with JCAHO, local, state and federal codes and regulations, and University policies.
Estimates job requirements, including staffing, equipment, parts, materials and supplies for designated work unit.
Oversees the safe operation and use of various types of electro-mechanical and power driven equipment. Inspects maintenance equipment and University facilities to ensure that the maintenance objectives of the Division are being fully realized.
Responds to and resolves inquiries and complaints from the public, patients, University and Hospital staff and students.
Coordinates the flow of work or services between Facilities departments, and assists in the resolution of inter- and intra-departmental operating problems.
Performs administrative activities, including: preparation of special and periodic reports to management as needed and requested; adherence to financial data, budgetary information, maintenance charge backs and other data; initiating and preparing forms and records, including payroll records, work orders, inventory records, personnel records, material requisitions, and other documents.

STARTING RATE OF PAY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Associate’s degree in Business, Science or a related field, post-secondary vocation OR technical two year school diploma OR master card in plumbing or electrical OR HVAC state contractor’s license OR NICET certification in industrial instrumentation and controls AND five (5) years of experience in commercial or industrial maintenance. Two (2) of the five (5) years should show successful progression in responsibilities and demonstrated leadership skills. Required to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities that require performing tasks requiring wearing respirator and other personal protective equipment, such as self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), to include:
Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet
Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus, working in confined spaces, sitting at desk, and staring at computer screen, for long periods of time, and Working within extreme temperature ranges
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:

Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
