The Stephenson Cancer Center is now hiring for a Research Technician at the Health Promotion Research Center. This position will work on a variety of NIH-funded pain psychology, cancer, and palliative care research projects that focus on adult patient populations. The Research Technician’s efforts will primarily be focused on interacting with study participants in person and via phone, assisting in the development of study intervention materials with an external app development company, maintaining regulatory documents, tracking all study documentation and communication, and conducting medical record reviews.

Duties:

  • Collect, enter, and maintain research data (e.g., in person questionnaires, smartphone-based questionnaires) pertaining to smartphone and tablet-based research projects
  • Conduct medical record reviews for a variety of cancer types with a focus on tracking the trajectory of patient care and outcomes after a cancer diagnosis
  • Recruit and consent patients from outpatient oncology clinics to participate in clinical and socio-behavioral research studies, specifically mobile health app research
  • Directly contact adult patients in clinic and/or over the phone
  • Conduct check-ins with active participants of studies
  • Assist the study team in refining a new pain management phone app for patients, with a specific focus on cognitive behavioral therapy for pain and opioid management information
  • Assist in simple clinical research projects collecting data from patients and/or participates in a study or project
  • Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects, which could include database information patient consent forms, and/or hard files
  • Interprets and analyzes data and discusses with principal investigator
  • Prepares reports concerning the progress of the project
  • Keeps detailed logs of all research related activities
  • Conducts literature searches
  • Conducts data analyses, interprets results, summarizes findings, and presents to Principal Investigator
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
 

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, or other health related field.

Equivalency/Substitution:Will accept 48 months experience in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and regulations.
  • Proficient with computers including data software and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to be detail oriented.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity. Reaching, bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Environmental: Laboratory Environment. Exposure to chemicals, biohazardous materials, carcinogens, or other hazardous materials.
