Summary

The position is for a research technician to provide responsible research assistance for the completion of projects in the department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology. The technician be able to handle multiple projects and can follow instructions to complete assignments under minimal supervision. Technical assistance is primarily required for an on-going project focused on understanding regulation of the intestinal stem cell niche in the context of viral and radiation damage to the intestinal epithelium.  The project centers on two model systems:  human intestinal organoids and mouse models of intestinal damage. The technician will require both sterile maintenance and culturing of human tissue and rodent animal handling skills. Experience with analysis of single cell RNAseq datasets highly desirable. This position will offer a unique and rewarding translational research experience in a dynamic and highly productive laboratory.  

Job Duties

  • Assesses readouts in human intestinal organoids using a variety of approaches that includes flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy, RNAscope, qPCR, western blotting, ELISA, RNAseq (single cell and bulk).
  • Assesses readouts in murine models that includes ELISA, RNAseq (single cell and bulk), fluorescent microscopy of tissue.
  • Handles multiple projects and follows instructions to complete assignments under minimal supervision.
  • Prepares figures using a variety of software packages that includes Excel, Powerpoint, and GraphPad.
  • Contributes to lab maintenance that includes ordering supplies, general clean up, freezer cataloging, and maintaining lab incubators.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic research lab is desirable.
  • Experience with analysis of single cell RNAseq datasets highly desirable.
