Assistant Professor, Early Intervention & Policy, Human Development & Family Science

The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDF) in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Rhode Island (URI) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor faculty position with expertise in early intervention and/or family policy who can contribute to our mission of contributing to the well-being of children and families. We seek a teacher/practitioner/scholar who is committed to URI’s mission as a learner-centered research university where diversity, fairness, and respect are valued. The expected start date is August 2023.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will have established teaching and/or research experience focused on the early lifespan with a focus on prevention and intervention in early childhood, working with children with disabilities, and/or family policy. Responsibilities include teaching approximately 5 undergraduate and/or graduate courses per year in early child development, introduction to early intervention, and/or family policy; developing and maintaining scholarship in the area of early intervention and/or family policy either independently or as part of an existing HDF research team; engaging with community partners on matters related to an Early Intervention certificate program; advising and working with graduate students; and engaging in university, statewide, and local service and policy activities. Experience working with federal- or state-funded grants in early intervention is preferred.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

By date of appointment:

1. Ph.D. or expectation of completion of degree requirements by appointment date, in human development & family science or related field.
2. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level human development and family science courses related to early intervention and/or family policy.
3. Scholarly expertise as demonstrated by conducting or publishing research in at least one of the following areas: early intervention program, family policy, children with disabilities and their families.
4. Demonstrated academic training in diverse and inclusive populations including childhood disabilities.
5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in teaching, scholarship, and service.
6. Demonstrated strong written communication skills.
7. Demonstrated strong verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Evidence of the following:

1. Demonstrated experience working on federal- or state-funded grants in early intervention;
2. Demonstrated success or capacity for success in grant writing and/or securing external funding.
3. Demonstrated experience working with young children with disabilities and their families.
