ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies is an academic unit that includes program in Africana Studies (BA, MLA), Latin American and Caribbean Studies (MA), International Studies (BA), Political Science (BA, MA), and Politics and International Affairs (PhD).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Academic Program Specialist in the School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies adminsters and manages the graduate programs in Africana Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Political Science, and Politics and International Affairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supports the School's recruitment and admissions processes, including those designated as direct receipt programs. Responds to program and admission inquiries from applicants and prospects, maintains applicant records, and organizes information for review by faculty. Prepares Graduate Application Referral (GAR) form and corresponds with College of Arts & Sciences Graduate and Undergraduate Studies Office and USF Graduate Studies Office during admissions process in order to resolve outstanding application issues.

Coordinates with School's Director and Graduate Director to develop and manage the School's graduate class schedule, including development of new and revised course proposals. Monitors course permits and graduate course enrollment. Prepares and maintains graduation tracking sheets/reports for the School. Administers graduate petition process for the School. Contacts staff or students to resolve discrepancies.

Serves as liaison on behalf of the School with university administrative officers, faculty, staff and students regarding the interpretation and implementation of university and college policies and procedures relating to collecting and analyzing data pertaining to admissions, student records, class scheduling and other enrollment issues.

Resolves problems encountered in verifying, interpreting, and evaluating academic degree audits, transcripts and catalog. Ensures the integrity of student and course data through regular audits and tests.

Acts as back-up support to the School's Academic Services Administrator for Director and faculty support.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with four years of experience in office or administrative positions. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

PREFERRED:

Five years administrative/clerical office experience; B.A. degree (or equivalent); good interpersonal skills; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; prior experience in a student service-oriented role; good listening, writing, and organizational skills; experience in USF systems, such as BANNER, FAST, and GEMS; and knowledge of University policies and procedures.
