Performs custodial services for offices, collections, laboratories, classrooms, and public access areas, including during special events using methods and products specific for use in a museum environment. Tasks require some organizational skills and the making of some decisions in the application of prescribed procedures. . This position supports the museum's integrated pest management program that helps ensure the preservation of more than 12 million specimens and objects through building and facility interior and exterior cleaning and monitoring for nearly 200 rooms and 189,000 square feet of public spaces, education areas, research labs, exhibits, and administrative offices.

Required Education: No Formal Education AND:

Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools, and methods commonly employed in building cleaning operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning devices/equipment and of their care and maintenance requirements
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be able to communicate well with students, faculty and staff, follow oral and written instructions, and to perform assigned tasks without close supervision
  • Must have knowledge of the safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components

Certifications:

  • None

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Hearing, vision, dexterity, mobility, agility, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, bending, squatting, climbing. Frequent exposure to safety hazards from chemicals and onerous odors. Regular handling of greasy, inky, or dirty materials.

Departmental Preferences:

  • GED or High school diploma preferred
