Pharmacy Technician

 

Position Information:

Prepares compounds using aseptic techniques and dispenses medications, intravenous medications, and chemotherapy according to physician’s orders.

 

Representative Duties:

  • Responsible for following all applicable laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. 
  • Responsible for reporting safety issues and errors in a timely matter to supervisor.
  • Researches, reviews, and replies to a wide range of correspondence and written inquiries regarding dispensing, inventory management, and storage of study provided drugs (Investigational Drug Services only).
  • Obtains pharmaceuticals via Patient Assistance and Medication Assistance Programs sponsored by pharmaceutical companies; keeps abreast with manufacturers Patient and Medication Assistance Programs; distributes all indigent pharmaceutical inventories to appropriate volunteer Pharmacies; interviews referred patients to obtain qualification status.
  • Completes all required initial and ongoing training assigned by the department, OU Physicians, and OU Health. 
  • May be required to assist with training new employees or pharmacy students.
  • Contributes to the operations of special projects. 
  • May assist in documenting cost savings and assist with funding from local hospitals.
  • Maintains adequate and accurate inventory of drugs and supplies. 
  • Ensures drugs are stored under proper conditions and removed from inventory upon expiration. 
  • Unpacks shipments and receives drugs into inventory system. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as required to successfully fulfill function of the position.

Qualifications:

 

Working Conditions Detail:

  • Physical: Must be able to work on feet, or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Environmental: Standard outpatient pharmacy and; or office.

 

Education:

  • Required: High School diploma or GED

 

Experience:

  • Required: 12 months experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

 

Certifications or Licenses:

  • Pharmacy Technician permit issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy for positions functioning within a pharmacy. Must obtain the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy permit within 90 days from hire date.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Prior cash handling experience (such as restaurant work, store clerk).
  • Proficiency on Microsoft Office programs: Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Office and; clerical or administrative experience to include answering the telephone, filing, making copies, computer and; data entry, greeting and assisting the public.
