Job Description

HSC Student Affairs oversees and coordinates the year-round programming for leadership and volunteer opportunities for the student body at the OU Health Sciences Center.  The Coordinator for Leadership and Volunteerism spearheads that programming by organizing volunteer opportunities across campus and the OKC metro, meeting with community partners about how to best utilize volunteers from OUHSC, and planning growth opportunities with faculty and staff.

The position is integral in providing opportunities for first-year students to engage with classmates across campus as well as faculty and staff they will interact with not only in their first year but beyond. As program offerings continue to expand in the spring and fall terms, the coordinator will expand other opportunities into the summer term for a growing student population.

The coordinator is responsible for leadership development on campus, complimenting students' time outside of the classroom. The staff member will also continue to build a bridge between the OUHSC campus and partners across the OKC community; bringing community leaders in from different markets and entities to teach students the value of leadership and how to succeed.

This staff member will maintain a database of all student volunteers and registered student organizations on campus. This database management is essential in the continued success of assessing students' experience and development on campus.

Duties:

  • The coordinator assists with planning, development, and implementation of designated student leadership programs and service.  Programmatic responsibilities include Leadership HSC, HSC1 (first-year program), New Student Orientation, HSC Big Event, Volunteer coordination, and other leadership programs as needed.

  • This staff member assesses the needs of students and helps to develop and implement targeted programs and services; serves as a liaison to HSC Student Government Association; conducts workshops, seminars, classes, and other special leadership programs for students; assists with development and administration of office policies and procedures related to programs; and researches, collects, and analyzes data or information and prepares reports and responses to inquiries.

  • The coordinator may create student newsletters, brochures, handbooks, and other publications; may coordinate or assist in the coordination of special projects or student related events; will perform other various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
