Summary

Baylor College of Medicine is part of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center located in Houston, Texas, which offers a highly interactive environment and a strong infrastructure for research and career development. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist with expertise in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, and/or mouse genetics to join the laboratory of Dr. Diana Monsivais, leading an endometrial biology group in the Department of Pathology & Immunology and member of the Center for Drug Discovery at Baylor College of Medicine. Our central vision is to improve the therapeutic options for women with endometrial-related diseases such as infertility, endometriosis and endometrial cancer by developing a multidisciplinary team.

Job Duties

  • Develop animal mouse models and primary human cell and organoid cultures for the study of endometriosis and endometrial regeneration
  • Participate in early-stage drug discovery in collaboration with scientists within the academic community, with a goal of bringing new treatments to patients with unmet medical needs
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary teams by engaging in the following state-of-the art activities: generation and characterization of genetically engineered mouse models; use of high-resolution microscopy and flow cytometry for characterization of cells; analysis and interpretation of next generation sequencing technologies to evaluate cellular effects on regeneration and differentiation; evaluation of compounds for efficacy in vitro (biochemical and cell-based assays) and in vivo; validation of targets using mouse genetics; and/or generation of DNA vectors
  • Support the laboratory's research goals by performing data collection and analysis, maintaining mouse colonies, and gathering supplies for testing
  • Assist with the modification and renewal of animal and human investigation protocols
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data for manuscripts
  • Draft, edit and revise manuscripts for publication
  • Contribute to a cohesive team environment
  • Train and supervise new trainees in the laboratory, therefore a team-oriented attitude is required
  • Interact with a wide-range of individuals with different scientific, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, therefore, it will be important to have a respectful and collaborative disposition at all times

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in biochemistry, recombinant protein technology, molecular biology, mouse genetics, and/or a related field and a track record of quality publications and/or patents in these areas.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: protein production and purification; molecular biology and vector construction; DNA sequencing; next generation sequencing and analysis; CRISPR/Cas9; and/or generation and analysis of mouse knockouts.
  • A strong track record with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
