The Digital Content Specialist helps the University of Oklahoma’s Information Technology department communicate critical technology information to stakeholders across the Norman, Health Sciences Center, and Tulsa campuses. This position will create written and multimedia content and promote digital communication channels, including social media, websites, and email communications, to help OU IT:

  • Maximize return on technology investments
  • Improve user support and technology proficiency
  • Communicate and reduce impacts of technology change
  • Respond to cybersecurity risks

Responsibilities:

  • Produce, edit, and share engaging digital content (including social media posts, news and feature stories, website and email copy, video, and photography)
  • Assist with management of OU IT’s primary social media channels (including Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, web sites, and blogs), posting content, responding to inquiries, and monitoring feedback
  • Repackage and repurpose content so that it performs most effectively on various platforms
  • Use and develop skills in a variety of tools and applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite and the university’s website content management system
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share content produced by others
  • Contribute to planning for specific communication initiatives and overall content marketing strategy
  • Partnering with an internal team to build out a social media calendar and conceptualize monthly content to reflect IT Stakeholder Engagement objectives, programs, and stories

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelors degree Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, or related field.
Equivalency/Substitution:  Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelors degree.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills       
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information    
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)   
  • Editing, proofreading and composition skills  
  • Organized and ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines 
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives     
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions, communicate and see including color, depth perception and clarity.
  • Standard office environment.  Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Marketing, or related field
  • Looking for recent or upcoming graduate 
  • Strong writing skills, a solid understanding of what makes for an engaging story, and the drive to learn and grow in the position
  • Familiarity with digital marketing platforms, preferably documented experience managing social media on behalf of an organization, business, department, etc.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite Internship experience 
  • Previous work history in Higher Education and/or information technology (including student employment)
