Summary

The Integrative Physiology Department at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Project Intern. This position requires developing machine learning algorithms for single-cell genomics and GWAS (genomewide association studies) data. The PI will identify the specific datasets and machine learning algorithms and the intern will implement the algorithms in Python and fit them on the datasets in our cluster computers. The position will offer great exposure to genomic data science and advanced machine learning. The intern will have authorship in any publication resulting from these studies. The position requires previous programming experience in Python.

Job Duties

  • Implements machine learning algorithms in Python using standard libraries such as numpy, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow (or PyTorch).
  • Downloads and processes genomics (GWAS and single-cell genomics) data for training the models.
  • Documents the results and reviews the codes weekly with the PI.
  • Participates in manuscript writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Python programming.
  • Experience with Numpy, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow (or PyTorch) strongly preferred.
