OU HSC is one of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation with seven professional colleges. We are currently building world-class institutes for the treatment of diabetes and cancer. The Library Tech is responsible for providing assistance and services to patrons and colleagues. Primary activities include Service/Information Desk coverage, circulation of materials, photocopying/scanning, and stack maintenance. This position is supervised by the Head of Access Services.

Duties:

  • Provides assistance to the OUHSC Library by acting as the receptionist, processing photocopy and loan requests, conducting library searches, and shelving
  • Serves as the receptionist at the service and circulation desk
  • Answers questions, assists patrons, makes transactions, and distributes materials
  • Checks out materials and checks in materials
  • Takes photocopying orders and processes orders
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness
  • Processes interlibrary loans and Medline searches
  • Processes renewals
  • Performs bibliographic library record searches using national, regional, and local databases
  • Maintains and updates various records and files
  • Performs shelving and shelf reading
  • Provides assistance to patrons
  • May assist in using library computers, photocopiers, fax machines, research materials, etc.
  • Assists library personnel by sorting and distributing mail, covering for absent employees, etc.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
 

Job Requirements

Education: High School diploma or GED

Experience: 12 months clerical experience

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Standing, walking, stooping, bending, and reaching. Engage in repetitive motion. Ability to move up to 25 pounds.
  • Environmental: Standard library environment.

 Department Preferences:

  • Excellent skills in the areas of customer service and verbal/written communication
  • Ability to organize individual and group assignments and follow through to completion
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite and web browsers (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Ability to read, understand, apply, and retain knowledge of resources and policies
