911 Dispatcher operates police communications equipment, such as telephones, radios, and computers. Receives and prioritizes simultaneous calls on multiple instruments, and dispatches responses to calls for service and to alarms. Controls police radio frequencies, monitors transmissions and maintains required logs and records. Facilitates communication with other public safety agencies. May perform other duties as assigned. Hiring contingent upon successful completion of background check.

Required Education: GED/High School Grad 

 

Skills:

  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong initiative to solve problems
  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver License

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to speak clear, concise English.  Willingness to wear and maintain uniforms. Ability to hear, including receiving detailed information orally. Ability to see, including color, depth perception and clarity. Ability to stand, bend, sit for extended period of time, and walk.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Previous experience dispatching for a public safety organization.
  • OLETS certification
  • Bilingual in conversational Spanish and English.

Supervision: No Supervisory Duties
